Story time...
If you know me, I love natural, holistic, botanical... MINDFUL approach to skincare…
Here's a little recap how it all started:
I have been a model for over two decades. I have done numerous fashion weeks at all of the fashion capitals and I know how taxing it can be on the skin with putting on tons of makeup, taking it all off and then starting all over again. In fact it doesn't even need to be a fashion show, as women wear makeup more than ever.
I had busy years doing incredible fashion shows like Dior, Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, shooting with photographers like Rankin, shooting for all the major magazines, my favorite being story and cover for Tatler, Vogue Sposa, Elle, Cosmopolitan, Glamour and being the face of many brands like Agent Provocateur, Neal’s Yard, Tony & Guy, Kodak, Avon. I was also really figuring out what I wanted to do next, as I was itching to go back to uni and so finally in 2008 I went back to science studies. Sciences were always attractive to me as in my family they are either doctors or artists.
I started it off with biomedicine for a few years, then life took me to NYC and when I took an academic year off, after one year it was clear I won’t ever leave Brooklyn as I found my heart there too. I am now married with a baby living in Brooklyn :) I also found a new way of looking at life. More mindful and kind way to myself and also holistic and wholistic practices became my lifestyle, because skin health does not solely depend on skincare.
But here's when I put two and two together: At one London Fashion Weeks shows a makeup artist introduced me to ‘natural’ makeup and skincare and since at that time I was studying chemistry it all started to make sense, it's as important to watch what we put in our bodies as well as what we put on to our bodies.
While on my biomed studies brake I realized all I really wanted to do is make skincare, so I moved to skincare sciences, first to study conventional ways of making skincare at Society of Cosmetics Scientists and then Formula Botanica, the latter concentrates only on natural and organics skincare - which was really my cup of tea. I finally graduated right before covid and birth of our baby girl. It took me a while as I was still modeling full time here in NYC, which was also so insightful about what goes on in the beauty industry. Some of the highlights would be Project Runway, shoots for Marie Claire, Net-A-Porter, Glamsquad, Eco Age, L’Oréal, Oribe, Garnier, Herve Leger. I met so many incredible and encouraging people here and found my model tribe - Model Mafia, a powerful community of hundreds of models who work together to create a more equitable, just and sustainable fashion industry and world and support each other's ventures. This community broadened my horizon on views about the world around me and beyond, pushed my understanding of what ‘sustainability’ actually means to the next level. Model Mafia deserves its own blogpost, so tbd…
