The Rose In You: Why Squalane Sits at the Heart of the Formula

When I created The Rose In You Face Serum, I wasn't looking to create just another facial oil.

I wanted a serum that felt light on the skin, absorbed beautifully, supported the skin barrier, and delivered the therapeutic benefits of botanicals without leaving behind a heavy or greasy feeling.

I also wanted something that could be worn comfortably during the day and underneath makeup.

Because oil does not equal oil.

One of the biggest misconceptions in skincare is that all oils are heavy, pore-clogging, or only suitable for dry skin. The truth is that oils differ enormously in their composition, texture, and how they interact with the skin.

That is why squalane sits at the heart of The Rose In You.

Squalane is a lightweight, stable lipid derived from plant sources that closely resembles squalene, a substance naturally present in healthy skin. In fact, squalene is one of the major components of our skin's natural protective barrier.

As we age, our natural production of squalene gradually declines. Skin can become drier, less resilient, and more prone to dehydration. Environmental stress, over-exfoliation, travel, and hormonal changes can also impact the skin barrier, leaving skin feeling depleted.

Squalane helps replenish what the skin naturally recognizes.

One of the reasons I love working with squalane is that it feels almost weightless. It absorbs beautifully, softens the skin, helps reduce moisture loss, and leaves behind a silky finish rather than an oily residue.

For those who have avoided facial oils because they are worried about congestion or breakouts, squalane is often a wonderful introduction. It is well tolerated by many skin types, including combination and hormonal skin.

Hormonal skin is something I think about often when formulating.

Many people experiencing hormonal fluctuations are encouraged to strip, dry, or aggressively treat their skin. Yet in my experience, skin often responds best when we support its natural functions rather than fight against them.

Healthy skin needs lipids.

Healthy skin needs a strong barrier.

Healthy skin needs balance.

Squalane helps support all three.

It also serves another important purpose within The Rose In You. It creates the elegant texture that allows the serum to work beautifully as a makeup primer while carrying the therapeutic botanicals throughout the formula.

Rose, frankincense, sandalwood, geranium, and palmarosa may bring the aromatic and therapeutic qualities that make this serum so special, but squalane is the ingredient quietly working behind the scenes to make everything feel effortless on the skin.

Some ingredients demand attention.

Others simply do their job exceptionally well.

Squalane belongs to the second category.

And that is exactly why it earned its place at the heart of The Rose In You.
